Tackling Tree Trimming

It's time for Tackle it Tuesday with 5 Minutes for Mom .

This week, we tackled tree trimming. Although the apple tree produced apples this year, they were really small. The tree itself hadn't been tamed in years so, we decided to lob the top off and hope for bigger apples next year.

I don't have before pictures (our server has my older pictures held captive:-) but, here is what we cut off:

And here is what is left of the tree:

It's kind of hard to tell from these pictures but the goal is to make it short and fat. We have achieved short and in spring, hopefully, it will fill out to fat:-)

I saw that headline and thought you were trimming your Christmas tree already. I was going to yell at you if you were...

After we pruned our apple trees a few years ago they didn't produce too many apples at first--but after a couple of years we got a lot!!

I would so love to have an apple tree in my yard. My parents used to have a crab apple tree over their garage. It was the bane of my Dad's existence, but I loved it.

The blizzard of petals were my favorite sign of spring.

Sadly, a real storm took it down a few years ago. At least that's what my Dad *said* happened to it...

Ohhhh this is something we need to do BADLY! We have 8 trees that need some serious trimming. I keep getting conflicting advice...some say to trim them in the fall and others say in January or February. I'm confused! lol

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Tree trimming sounds like work. we trim through out the summer months, and it's definatly a chore.

Made me tired just looking at all that work...lol

That reminds me of the apple tree my grandmother had in her yard when we were kids. The mulberry trees were fun too. Unfortunately the only tree in my tiny yard now is a maple.
